I am now creating and producing on Apple Macintosh products and in particularly Final Cut Pro which is becoming my main editing hub.


OCTOBER 08 - THE BLACK DARK feature film script chosen for European funding

Richard Edwards from Element productions has chosen my new feature film script 'The Black Dark', to be part of their european funded development slate.


OCTOBER 08 - SKELLIG, feature film starring Tim Roth

I have just finished working as an assistant editor on a feature film called 'Skellig'. The production was shot in Wales for Sky's new movie slate by London based company Feel Films. The film starring Tim Roth, John Simm and Kelly Mcdonald is based on an award winning children's fantasy novel. The film will be shown in cinema's in spring and then Sky's own HD channel.


AUGUST 08 - DJ SHADOW APPROVES THE GOLD DUST RECORD IN LOS ANGELES

DJ Shadow has approved the short film 'The Gold Dust Record' based on his album 'Endtroducing'. From a personal email via his management in Los Angeles Josh Davis A.K.A. Shadow said 'Dear Robbie, this has been approved. Shadow appreciates your energies and thought concerning his body of work. This is fantastic news and a great achievement. The Black Dark now has music clearance of DJ Shadows album 'Endtroducing' and can now submit the film to festivals.


MAY 08 - DJ SHADOW WATCHES THE GOLD DUST RECORD IN AMERICA

I have been trying to get clearance of the music by DJ Shadow from the album Endtroducing. I have been in talks with Universal and DJ Shadows management. The situation at the moment is that the film 'The Gold Dust Record' has been sent to Los Angeles, USA for DJ Shadow to view and then give his approval. Fingers crossed he likes the film and approves the music...


MAY 08 - THE GOLD DUST RECORD IS FINALLY FINISHED

On May 2nd I finally finished the film. My first initial idea for the project came back in October 1998. It has taken me nearly ten years to make it and after seeing the completed film I would say that it was well worth the wait. I am now in contact with DJ Shadows managemnet company and Universal Music Group who own the rights to the album 'Endtroducing'. Hopefully I shall be granted clearance of the music with good will. MAY 08 - RHODRI EVAN WINS BEST ACTOR BAFTA

Rhodri John - stage name Rhodri Evan has just won a welsh Bafta for best actor. His role of Borders in S4C's drama 'Cowbois ac Injans' has landed him the award. The Black Dark is chuffed at having Rhodri's acting talents in The Gold Dust Record and wishes him well and congratulations.


APRIL 08 - CRANC TO DUB THE GOLD DUST RECORD

Television dubbing facilities house 'CRANC' have agreed to mix The Gold Dust Record. Based in the heart of LLandaf not far from the BBC and Derwen, Cranc is the best for post production sound and dubbing. I have worked with them in the past on both Derwen promos 'Little Derwen' and 'Derwen Royale'. MARCH 08 - EDITING THE GOLD DUST RECORD @ DERWEN

Post production is underway at Derwen, the best editing facilities house in Wales. Bafta award winning editor 'John Gillanders' has already started to give something special to the film. John has just finished cutting feature film 'Abraham's Point' and is using his skill and talent to tell the story of The Gold Dust Record in a very visual and poetic way. OFFLINE CUT, PICTURE LOCKED. GRADE IN APRIL.


MARCH 08 - SKILLSET CYMRU TRAINING FRAMEWORK

I have just recieved my freelance training framework bursary through SKILLSET, where I have begun my mentor scheme with producer / distributor expert David Marlowe from Silverlight media. David will be taking me through a series of detailed meetings based around the premise of 'Understanding the Business you are in'. So far the knowledge learnt has been invaluable and will hopefully create an understanding of how a feature film can be copyrighted, written, funded, made and exhibited.


FEB 08 - JM CREATIVE PROMO ILLUSTRATIONS

I have just finished 6 storyboards for advertising promo company JM Creative. Based on the 2008 waste awareness campaign the illustrations were finished to a high standerd using ink, pencil and photoshop techniques. These new images can be seen in the gallery section along with other visual delights.


JAN 08 - SKILLSET CYMRU TRAINING FRAMEWORK

I have been chosen as one of the Skillset freelancers to apply for the Skillset Cymru training framework. With help and guidance from producer Sue Jefferies and film producer David Marlow of Silverlight, I will be engaging in a detailed and exciting new scheme for freelancers.


DEC 07 - GOLDEN UPDATE 3

Production of The Gold Dust Record is complete. The last scene was finished on Saturday. I am now looking forward to the new year where we will be completing post production @ Derwen. NOV 07 - GOLDEN UPDATE TWO

Theatre, Film & Television actor Rhodri John has agreed to play the role of Josh Davies, AKA DJ Shadow. This is more exciting news for the film. I believe that working with Rhodri & Phil will bring a certain something to the production with their wealth of experience and talent.


OCT 07 - GOLDEN UPDATES

Theatre, Film & Television actor Phil Reid has agreed to play the role of the Mystery Man. This is exciting news for the production. I believe that Phil will be able to bring a darkness to the role of the soul seller and golden music creator, as well as experience and talent.


SEPT 07 - DERWEN SUPPORTS THE GOLD DUST RECORD

It is official? Post production house Derwen, based in Cardiff have agreed to support the production and post production of the new self financed short film The Gold Dust Record. Rhys Bevan - managing director at Derwen has agreed to help in the areas of cameras and editing. This means a low budget self financed picture can achieve high production values. I am delighted to be able to use the kind of professional kit that Derwen can provide. I can achieve the vision and visual style that this very personal film needs with the help of Derwen. A very big thank you to Rhys for his generous support.


SEPT 07 - THE GOLD DUST RECORD CREW GROWS

The crew for the shadow project 'THE GOLD DUST RECORD' is growing. Robbie Brewster - writer, director of The Gold Dust Record has managed to tap into old resources and collegues from post production Derwen. Robbie says...'I have managed to aquire the skill and talent from some old collegues at Derwen. I have Guy Passmore on Camera, Owain Llwyd as Offline Editor, Gethin Davies as Online Editor, Nick Britz as 1st Assistant AD and Catrin Evans as Script Editor'.


SEPT 07 - X HEAD OF TALENT BBC TO MENTOR ROBBIE

Maggie Russell - ex head of talent at BBC Wales has agreed to mentor Robbie for 6 months. Maggie will be helping Robbie with future projects and developing his talent. Their first project together will be the short film 'The Gold Dust Record'. Based on DJ Shadows masterpiece 'Endtroducing', robbie says... 'I am delighted to be in the situation of being mentored by such a talented and experienced producer such as Maggie and also excited about the future projects lined up for The Black Dark.


SEPT 07 - THE SHADOW PROJECT

Back in 1996 an album created entirely of samples was born. It's name - Endtroducing by DJ Shadow. Since then Robbie Brewster has been obsessed with making it into a film and finally, that time is now. 'At this moment in time I am re-writing the script and putting the crew together. July 07 - THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS

New website ITV local wales is now showing a series of short films as part of the ITV Wales/ Its My Shout short film partnership. Award winning film 'They Might be Giants' can now be viewed on this new innovative website. Are you local?


July 07 - Its My Shout

They Might be Giants is now showing on the new Its My Shout website. The award winning film has had to be recut for it to fit on You Tube but looses none of it's brilliance.


July 07 - You Tube updates

The Black Dark and the video work of Robbie Brewster joined the You Tube community in November 2006. The Black Dark has now 28 videos so far with a total of 5455 views to date.


MAY 07 - Creative Communities

Creative Communities, Community Multi Arts and Communities First groups from Rhondda Cynon Taf, have commisioned The Black Dark to shoot and edit their community projects and a special premiere performance of 'Killing Me Softly'. Shot over two nights in May at the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd, 'Killing Me Softly' proved to be an extraordinary uplifting musical that showed the potential to be made into a film for television. 'This is something that we are developing at this very moment', said Robbie Brewster, creative director of The Black Dark.


MAY 07 - TAPS Cymru

TAPS Cymru is a subsidiary company set up to provide writer training in Wales. Robbie Brewster, creative director of The Black Dark was selected for the course by Peter Edwards, Head of Drama @ ITV Wales. The three day weekend course was fronted by writer / director visiting lecturer Sam Snape. An inspirational teacher and personality. TAPS Cymru was a fantastic industry course and highly recommended for people interested in writing for Television and Feature Films.


MARCH 07 - Element productions

At the moment Robbie is writing a detailed treatment with Element productions with the hope of BBC Wales backing and transmission. The six part documentary series based on Welsh myths and Legends is an exciting and powerful new idea featuring The Black Dark's favourite 'Guto Nyth Bran'...


MARCH 07 - JM Creative

Just finished work on two JM Creative treatments. Robbie Brewster was chosen to illustrate and storyboard two promos for the new Media Centre based advertising company. With an option of directing if one is chosen.


MARCH 07 - It's My Shout 2007

New script 'Monster School' has been shortlisted for It's My Shout 2007 / ITV Wales.


MARCH 07 - DERWEN ROYALE

Last years xmas promo 'DERWEN ROYALE' is now available to view on 'YOU TUBE'. The promo has now clocked up over 100 views and is still going strong.


MARCH 07 - PICARDY CYMRU

Robbie Brewster to direct a new promo for Picardy Cymru. Marisa Beaumont Conway of Picardy has chosen Robbie to direct an exciting visual promo in the style of a pop video. Based at Demure's, Cardiff's newest Table Dancing & Cabaret Club. What is particularly interesting is that the very same club was used for the Derwen Royale xmas promo. Robbie says 'I'm looking forward to meeting the girls'.

October 06 - DERWEN

Robbie sadly leaves post production at DERWEN to pursue a life long dream of becoming a drama director within the film and television industry.


NOVEMBER 06 - More success for The Farmers Daughter

The success of 'The Farmer's Daughter' continues. As part of the TCM classic movie shorts competition, the film came within the top ten. 340 films were actually entered and The Farmer's Daughter given a highly commended position.


NOVEMBER 06 - Its My Shout on the Television

Robbie's award winning film 'THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS', will be shown on ITV WALES in November. There will also be a making of / documentary programme at the end of the six films in December, starring award winning BEST DIRECTOR ROBBIE BREWSTER.


NOVEMBER 06 - Derwen Xmas Promo 2006

DERWEN have commissioned ROBBIE BREWSTER to write and direct their new Christmas promo. After the success of last years LITTLE DERWEN, BRYN ROBERTS and new facility manager RHYS BEVAN have commissioned ROBBIE to write and direct a short promo based on the new bond film 'CASINO ROYALE'. This action packed video will be shot on HIGH DEFINITION and will be premiered at the DERWEN Christmas party on December 14th at the PARK PLAZE HOTEL, CARDIFF.


NOVEMBER 06 - Fiction Factory

FICTION FACTORY has chosen ROBBIE BREWSTER to be mentored by one of their experienced directors ED TALFEN. The new S4C drama 'THE COCKLE FARMER' will start production in January where Robbie will find himself shadowing ED within the production. CYFLE have also added their kind support in funding this exciting film directing scheme for ROBBIE. Much thanks to all those involved.


NOVEMBER 06 - Seagate Foyle Film Festival

THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER has been nominated to compete in the BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT category at the SEAGATE FOYLE FILM FESTIVAL in NORTHERN IRELAND. Please check out their website for more details.


NOVEMBER 06 - Cardiff Film Festival

Last years Screen Gems 05 short film 'THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER' written and directed by ROBBIE BREWSTER will be shown at the CARDIFF FILM FESTIVAL in NOVEMBER. Please check out the festivals website / programme for more details.

Also showing on NOVEMBER 9TH @ 7:30 pm on THURSDAY NIGHT is the IT'S MY SHOUT short film scheme. Robbie's award winning film 'THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS' will be showing @ Chapter in Cinema 1.


February 07 - The Cockle Farmer - Fiction Factory

Robbie has the pleasure of starting his trainee director scheme with S4C, CYFLE and FICTION FACTORY on February 5th. Robbie will be shadowing director ‘Ed Talfan’ on the new S4C drama ‘The Cockle Farmer’. The scheme was set up by Robbie and with the help of Fizzy Oppe from Fiction Factory and Shan Hughes from CYFLE.


OCTOBER 06 - IT'S MY SHOUT

The star-studied film ceremony 'It's My Shout' got under way on October 5th. Oscar nominated film maker Paul Turner judged and presented the 'Best Director' award to none other than Robbie Brewster, A.K.A The Black Dark.
